DOCTORATE Thesis writing processes (2 Years)

Stage 1: Determining thesis topic: first 3 months
You need to be careful during the topic selection phase. If you choose a topic that interests you, is original, has easy access to sources while writing, and has scientific adequacy, you will not have any trouble. Since the stage of determining the thesis topic also requires a literature review and the variability of the topic is also taken into account, you need to allocate at least 3 months to this stage. If you use this time actively and efficiently and perform a solid literature review, you will not waste time and will not have to go back to the beginning in the middle of the research and search for a thesis topic.

Stage 2: Narrowing down the topic: next 1 month
Since taking a very broad topic and researching it will exceed the page limit, what students should do is to determine the keywords and narrow down the topic accordingly. The question of how narrow it can be is important, if it is narrowed down too much, there may be a problem with resources to research, and in addition, time may not be enough for a broad topic research. Those who write theses should balance this well. Since the topic is known and a short-term research is done when determining the thesis topic, you need to spend at least 1 month narrowing down the topic.

Stage 3: Determining the thesis in the research (hypothesis): 2 months
The third of the thesis preparation stages; When limiting the topic, the thesis writer should have a sentence in his mind that he will put forward as a claim. This is shaped when the first readings begin, but it is not definite. It may change as the readings continue. The thesis sentence should be assertable, defensible according to scientific criteria, and evaluable in terms of cause and effect relationship. This sentence guides the researcher. 3 months will be enough for this stage.

Stage 4: Determining the method: 2 months
The fourth point in the thesis preparation stages; If you find the right topic and apply the right method, you can complete your thesis without any problems. The aspect that adds scientific feature to the thesis is its method. Survey, experiment, observation, interview, statistics are a few of them.

Stage 5: Preparing a temporary plan: 1 month
This process, also called a draft plan, allows for systematic action. The reason it is temporary is that it is prepared in the first stage and changes will vary depending on the continuation of the readings and the new changes to be added. It is prepared as follows:

  • Entrance
  • Methodological
  • Findings
  • Explanations and Evaluations Regarding the Findings
  • Conclusion and Discussion
  • Source

Stage 6: Preparing a temporary bibliography: 2 months
Readings and sources made during the research are written as notes. Why is it called temporary? As readings will continue, new ones will be added.

Stage 7: Reading and taking notes: 5 months
Readings are determined by scanning the sources and taking notes. To do this, you can access the bibliography of the thesis written on your subject and follow the publications there, if you take notes of the places you read and write the sources, you will avoid returning to the same sources again.

Stage 8: Writing stage: 8 months
It is the process of writing all the above-mentioned items clearly, explicitly, and according to scientific rules. You must master all the points you have written. You must review the thesis preparation stages again if necessary.
